This is one of the thing which bugs me in Apple Mac OS X . In windows i do closing of programs directly from the windows task bar at the bottom . When windows are grouped I even can close all the window groups at once from the right mouse click . There is no such feature in Mac OS X . Mac needs more than one click to do that close function for minimized program ( application ) window . And every minimized window needs individual treatment to close them . In Mac right clicking on the minimized application windows just shows one option to open that window . This single option is as good as maximize menu in windows right click on windows task bar. One of the several reason windows is better than Mac .

Use Option and hit the red-close button will help you a lot.

Wendy . dont get you.. there is no way to close minimized window . It has to be maximized and then only we can see the red close button…

Don’t forget that on a Mac you are only closing the windows the application is still running. Closing/Quitting applications is a separate operation. This is a good thing

Well you don’t need to close apps in mac, unix tipe file system are much more ressources / memory efficient than in Wiindows. Just try it and let as many apps open as you want, you barely will notice some slow-down. So is better to allways have most used apps running in background so you don’t have to open / close all the time and be more productive

@bibi . i have tried opening many applications and yes i have NOTICED slow-down even though i have 2GB of RAM. it may be memory efficient but i can say that opening too applications will slow down Mac

The reason this is so hard for you guys is because yall are still in Windows mode! Instead of closing the minimized window, right click the actual app on the left side of the dock (if u want to close the safari minimized window right click the safari app, not the minimized one) There u will have 2 options: Quit which will close the whole app, or Hide, which will close the window and leave it in the background…. besides with spaces and expose, i rarely have to minimize as i have more than enough space on my 8 “desktops”. Just my 2 cents!
