WIndows Explorer supports FTP . I can directly type FTP address , authenticate myself and browse my remote server in a similar way i browse my local drives and folders . Even Windows Internet Explorer ( inbuilt internet browser ) supports it . But where is the similar feature in Mac . The finder doesn’t seem to have such option to browse through remote server content by typing ftp://example.com . If Finder doesn’t have it what about inbuilt browser Application ( program ) in mac - Safari. Safari too doesn’t support it . See the screenshot what Safari says when i type ftp://macphobia.com . Well there is a solution for this in mac but why waste time looking for such feature which should have been built in ( to be as good as windows
) . To have a remote server mounted to your finder here is a Mac App which does that task pretty well. The Application is called ExpanDrive . To open server using FTP in browser we can use Firefox if safari can’t do it. There are other FTP clients for Mac like Cyberduck, Transmit , Fetch . I personally use and like Cyberduck. What apple says - Read this .
