Before using Mac my favorite browser in Windows was Firefox ( not that i hate IE ,  because of Firefox addons features basically i love Firefox) . But when i moved to Apple Mac my favorite browser is Safari though it doesn’t have Addon’s flexibility as compared to Firefox . In Firefox world viewing the saved passwords is really easy . You just need to go to Firefox preferences in Mac ( and tools> options in Windows ) then to Security tab and click on the “Saved Passwords” then “Show Passwords” . Getting the forgotten passwords was , and still is , this easy in Firefox . I keep forgetting my usernames and passwords i use in different sites and personally i used this feature of Firefox many times. Quite sometimes i have also revealed my friends’ saved passwords , like a prank , in their Firefox browser . It is quite fun if your friends are not much aware of these stuffs.

After i started using Safari as my default browser in Mac and enabled Autofill option for username and passwords , i haven’t been able to get my forgotten saved passwords . Its not possible from Safari menu to see the Autofill passwords . In Mac there is something called “Keychain Access” which does this thing of saving and revealing the saved passwords from Safari as well as other Mac application . So basically to see the Safari saved password in Mac open Keychain Access navigate to the website or username whose password you forgot , right click the particular row and click ” Copy Password to Clipboard” . You can paste it to any text editor ( eg. Textedit ) and see the saved password. This way finally , i got my lost password :-) .

In Windows version of Safari its not possible to see the saved password as Windows version of Safari also doesn’t have show password option in its Preferences> Autofill . I dont know where are the password saved in case of Safari in Windows.

… or you can just double-click the specific key in keychain access to open up its info-pane. there, you can click ’show password’ - no need for an external text-editor.
