Safari Google Search Bar ! Opening a new Tab in Safari

Well there is one more very simple and minute reason i should be unhappy while using Mac ( being come from Windows world ). Its been more than half year i have been using Mac in my home computing use but still i am not used to its some of the behavior. This particular reason i dont like Mac is related to the Mac’s Window Full screen issue. Most of the Mac application dont go full screen to fit the monitor width but some of them do. For example i have used Adobe Photoshop which takes whole screen width while clicking Green Maximize control button . Similarly Adobe Reader and Default Mail app also behaves same. The problem i liked to mention here is even if the application window goes full screen to take the whole window width they are movable or draggable . Whats the logic behind this Apple ? Why the hell we want to move the application windows after it has taken entire screen width. We dont want to see the part of application window by moving it . The windows in this scenario should be fixed to the screen as long as user doesn’t click Green maximize button.

In windows this is handled pretty well. You cant move or drag windows once they are full screen or they are taking whole screen width.

Sometimes in Mac i accidentally click on the application window Top bar ( heading ) and move or drag it . Then it takes quite some time to get the window back to fill my screen width . I am annoyed with this specially because i have resized all my application windows to fit the screen width mainly Safari and Mail. Moreover , even if they are made movable the windows motion should have some kind of magnetic effect so that when the window edges come near to the screen edge they get auto aligned with the screen width. This would temporarily solve the problem .

    Would this help you?

I prefer the Mac’s way of doing things and cannot imagine ever wanting an application to run in full screen mode - which is probably why I do not use Windows ;)

Duncan, I tried Think its good but this doesn’t solve my problem of accidental window dragging to outer width of my screen . However it is meant to have some kind of fullscreen like behavior where you can concentrate in only one window..

I agree with Duncan. Why would you want your window to be “fixed” and not have the option to move it? This works great when you have two displays and can FREELY move your window. Besides, i HATE HATE HATE how on windows it takes the whole screen. What’s the logic behind THAT? most of the time there is only empty space on either side. But on a mac, when you hit the green button, it maximizes only enough to show the entire content! I think that’s better executed than on the windows side. Besides, that means i can fully interact with my desktop by moving folders in and out of opened windows. Just my 2 cents.

Fortunately, this was “hacked” via the popular swizzling/SIMBL route, which is one of the only options of any NSApplication where you lack the source. Even with some of the changes in 10.6, a la iTunes, I’ve had the situation fixed via the “wrongzoom” plugin by Ian Henderson. The code was opensourced in github a year or so and recently updated for 64-bit support, via one of the forks. It’s very little code but fixes for all Windows
