Dictionary Application- Mac Leopard Closing an Open Window in Mac

Most of you coming to this blog must be wondering about the Mac like Dock which shows up at the bottom of this blog . Well I created a WordPress plugin while creating this blog . I was heavily inspired by the Mac Style Dock JavaScript from Stephen Morley . And i wanted to use the script in my site macphobia . Later i decided to make it easy to use to every WordPress blog users and decided to create a plugin . I dont know much about PHP language and this is my first ever WordPress plugin . Everyone is invited to make any correction to the code . Suggestions and feature requests are welcome but it will take time for me to present you what you want the plugin to be .

Icons are downloaded from various icon sites like iconspedia.com, interfacelift.com etc and were modified .

Download the zipped file for the Plugin.

Usage is pretty straight forward. Follow the below steps

1. Just extract the plugin

2. Put it in the WordPress plugin folder

3. And activate it .

4. Go to WordPress Setting page then to MacDock

5. Configure the number of icons to display and URLs

Tested with WordPress Verions 2.5 and 2.6 and later . Should work fine for others too , If not Please contact me.

This is a pretty funky plugin! :D Didn’t think it was actually possible to do this, so wow! Was just wondering - I clicked on the ‘x’ in the demo to turn off the bar, but am not sure how to get it back again? Thanks!

  2. MacPhobia HONG KONG Says:

@Mosey. I have used cookie to set when clicked on the “X” so it will disapear . To get the bar on again you need to close the browser and open the website again. If it weren’t stored in cookie you would get the Dock everytime the page is refreshed ( that would be irritating sometimes ;-) ) Thanks for your comments

The MacDock is soo frigging irritating!

Wish there were a way to turn it of for good. In fact all those floating web site elements should be banned completely.

  4. MacPhobia HONG KONG Says:

@Ken you can turn it off clicking on the “X” button at the left of the Dock . These kind of irritation was taken into consideration when i made the plugin . So i put the “X” button to close it ( turn it off ) .

  5. Mosey MALAYSIA Says:

@MacPhobia: Thanks for the quick response! :D I have to admit (being slow me) I did try the “let’s refresh the page and get the bar again” approach and was dismayed to find it didn’t work ;) But I can definitely see why you would want to keep it turned off “permanently” during a browsing session if the user had already clicked ‘X’.

Whilst testing out MacDock on your site, I noticed that not all the icons have extra ‘text’ explaining where the link goes to (e.g. the rubbish bin goes to ‘Contact’?) so was wondering if this is something that can be defined?

    Thanks!

p/s: On a completely separate note, I think I’ll be following your blog in the future. Just realised it’s for people who are new to Macs. I’m still in love with XP too much to make the leap, but maybe reading your blog will help a lot!

  6. MacPhobia HONG KONG Says:

@Mosey. Actually about the extra text which comes with the fully expanded icon , its not the extra text only but an extra image altogether so depending upon you connection speed it may take some time for you to see the texed image ( the texted image is some 30-40 kb ) . So if it doesn’t come quick keep mouse hovered at that icon, text will be displayed . Once displayed its cached and it would be shown faster. Well it was thought when i made the plugin but having a separate texted image was what i could think of that time.

you are welcome to follow this blog . Me being using Mac and windows user( windows at work and Mac+windows at home ) i am going to put points which look different to Windows user new to Mac . The blog name is Macphobia so i am at Windows side and not Mac ;-)

  7. Mosey MALAYSIA Says:

@MacPhobia: Thanks for the explanation ;) I was actually wondering why it was loading quite slowly (it turns out the internet access I have at the moment is 1Mbps max so the actual speed is more than a little slow *ish missing fast internet*) at first but as I couldn’t replicate the ‘phenomena’ and decided it must have been my eyes playing tricks on me. Is it ajavascript generated text image file?

Loving the idea of the cache/cookie though!

p/s: Remind me to read the ‘about’ again before making silly comments. ^^; XP ftw!

  8. MacPhobia INDIA Says:

Nope Mosey those are not JavaScript generated image files those are static images but loaded only when mouse is hovered to the Dock Icons

Great site, Man!! Mac Phobia !! wow.. I’ve read all your post until the very beginning ! and I LOVE IT all !!

For the macdock, I’d like to suggest a minimize button, a user changeable icon, a user sizeable dock… hope you know what I mean… great plugin !!

  13. MacPhobia HONG KONG Says:

    @mocona . Thanks,

There is no minimize button but there i a close button at the left . User can change the icon from admin panel about which icons to display. You can even create your own images and put them in the “thumbs” folder of the plugin . There are couple of images to be created when u want to create a single icon.
