Dock Item Bump

Mac Dock Item Jump

Mac’s Dock notification behavior is sometimes very irritating. Dock makes the dock items which are requesting my attention  oscillate.  When i am busy in some work and i accidentally click a dock item and if the Dock item has something which it thinks requires my attention , then it just starts Jumping and never stops untill i click on it and give attention. I dont understand why it Jumps forever. Wasn’t there anything Mac developers could think and put some new kind of notification behavior. I mean let the Dock item jump for some time and if it doesn’t get any attention from user just make it stop.

Instead of making it jump they could have just used some other kind of notification like Color change highlight or something. Or like the notification in Mail. And they could also give us the flexibility to choose which kind of notification behaviors we like .

Windows System Tray notificaion

Windows Task Bar notification

In Windows the notification is better. It is in the Task bar as well as in the system tray. The system tray notification can be ignored they just fade away after sometime . But the Task bar notificaions with highlighted color can’t be ignored but they dont jump forever to interrupt you and disturb you like in Mac :-)

That’s completely a matter of opinion, and the fact that you would post that hear seems like you’re just trying to find any little thing that windows “Does better.”
I’m not bias towards any OS, but this is degrading.

Neither of the windows alternatives you mention are analogous to the bouncing dock icon, and both of them have analogues on OS X. (bezels and badges, respectively)

The analogue to the bouncing icon, on Windows, is the dialog “requesting” your attention coming forward entirely by itself (and if it’s modal, stopping you from doing anything). The bounce is obvious because it’s important, and doesn’t time out because the *problem* doesn’t time out.

There is, however, the point that some developers use this behaviour when it isn’t appropriate; but I don’t know what Apple can do about that really, their guidelines are pretty clear, and I’ve never seen them misuse it themselves.

You could just close what you accidentally opened…

How can I stop the Explorer from jumping in my dock?

  5. Srinath INDIA Says:

I am sure there is a way. A free app ‘Docker’ has the option
‘Prevent icons from bouncing’. There must be a setting somewhere to do this if you dont want to use the app.

To jump higher you have to do pull-ups as well to increase your bpdy force. Pull-ups grant you to lift yourself up into the air easier.
