Apple’s iPhone has wowed most of the globe — but not Japan, where the handset is selling so poorly it’s being offered for free.
What’s wrong with the iPhone, from a Japanese perspective? Almost everything: the high monthly data plans that go with it, its paucity of features, the low-quality camera, the unfashionable design and the fact that it’s not Japanese.
In an effort to boost business, Japanese carrier SoftBank this week launched the “iPhone for Everybody” campaign, which gives away the 8-GB model of the iPhone 3G if customers agree to a two-year contract.
“The pricing has been completely out of whack with market reality,” said Global Crown Research analyst Tero Kuittinen in regard to Apple’s iPhone prices internationally. “I think they [Apple and its partners overseas] are in the process of adjusting to local conditions.”

There is another shortcoming that hampers iPhone 3G as a phone: Battery life. Standby life is great. In my testing, the battery lasts for days if the phone isn’t used. But 3G calling drains the battery surprisingly fast. Worse: Mixing telephony and data or other features. Apple’s mobile delivers great GPS coordinated with Google Maps. But it’s a battery-life sucking app. Battery life wouldn’t an issue if the battery could be swapped like the T-Mobile G1. I know people that recharge iPhone 3G two or three times a day or keep in it car-docked whenever they drive. A trickle of charge comes here, there and everywhere.
Other shortcomings come where Apple strangely chose to digress from standard features found on most other mobiles. SMS/MMS sending is makeshift. Apple expects people to send pictures via e-mail. Video is lacking, too. Have you talked to teens lately? These are commonly used capabilities.
iPhone 3G was released in India on 22 August . India is one of the biggest market of mobile phones and the country with largest growing mobile market . Smartphones are popular in India . Although no 3G , Video calling services are available ,people are buying 3G and Video phones . Without 3G service available in India we can remove 3G part from iPhone 3G . So basically in India iPhone 3G and old iPhone with 2.0 firmware have not much difference . Whats noticeable from the Apple’s perspective is iPhone 3G is fail in India. Mac OSX latest Version & Xcode
The other day i downloaded XCode from Apple site to have some experience of Apple development . And also the iPhone Development kit . After i downloaded the software it asked me to update my OS to latest version from Software Update tool before i can install the downloaded Software kit . It was irritating to know that . I dont find any reason why i should be having latest OS X version . Though I have 10.5.3 version of OS X . Latest one is 10.5.4 . I did not want to update my OS version . Rather i found a cool fast trick to get the Mac OS X version to any number i wanted . Now i have Mac OS X Leopard version 10.5.5 before apple has seeded this version . Continue reading »
